The
present strength of the school is 138 out of which 108 are
day-scholars. Previously the students of our school used
to reach the school by there wheelers and by hired vehicles.
We have arranged a Mini-Bus for their transport, Which made
them easier to reach the school in time and to return them
homes in good spirits.
The staff out Institution, as noted in the previous years,
usually proceed to the tribal and back-ward areas for the
purpose of identification of mentally handicapped children
and to assist them to cope with the daily routine in a purposeful
way. The parents of such children can not come to the institution
for any counseling of for admission, as they are far away.
This is due to lack of knowledge and due to ignorance and
due to financial considerations.
We are providing behavior modification of mentally handicapped
children through the services of Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy,
Music Therapy , Yoga Therapy. In addition to these, special
education techniques by paying visits, who are employed
in other well established institution.
Shanthiniketan is one of the institution, which is running
a hostel for the mentally handicapped all through the year
in this part of the country. Even during summer vacation
many children stay in our hostel. The parents of these children
feel that their children cannot be managed, controlled or
counseled by them in their houses. They wish to keep their
children in our hostel as it is being maintained in an efficient
manner and the hostel is a safe place for them to live and
to send their leisure in a comfortable way.
Shanthiniketan has been extending special education to the
mentally handicapped children by the efforts of our well
trained staff, who are qualified min special education.
training is provided to the children in vocational training
like candle making, chalk-pieces making, paper-cup making.
vaseline making. phenyl making, spiral binding, thermal
binding, certificate lamination and in the preparation of
cold cream etc. |
